Raymondville, Texas Josephine Brown Stone , better known as Jo, passed away in her home on December 9, 2014. Josephine was born on March 5, 1921 to Carroll E. Brown and Nellie Murray Brown. In 1932 the family moved from Arkansas to McAllen, Texas where Josephine finished school and attended Edinburg College. Josephine married Don Stone in 1941 and moved to Raymondville, Texas. Josephine is preceded in death by her husband Don, her brother Carroll E. Brown, Jr. of Amarillo, Texas and her sister Marian Brown Myatt, McAllen, Texas. Josephine is survived by two sons, Stuart Reagan Stone, Corpus Christi, Texas and Carroll Duncan Stone and Marcia Winters Stone, Harlingen, Texas. Two grandchildren, Stuart Gunner Stone (Lynsey) of St. Johns, New Foundland and Nicole Stone Levy (Stephen) of Austin, Texas. Three grandchildren, John Pike Powers VI, Josephine Reagan Powers and Marcia Elizabeth Levy and several nieces and nephews. A special recognition for the care given by her caretakers: Cleo Tamez, Rene Silva, Leticia Guillen and Lupita Lopez. Josephine was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and for many years was active in both the Sunday school and Youth Group. A member of Chapter AQ, PEO Sisterhood for over 50 years, Josephine served in all offices of the Raymondville chapter and the Texas State Chapter International PEO Sisterhood. Josephine established the Bettie Scott/Barbara Bates Texas Cottey College Scholarship Fund. Cottey College is a college for girls and is located in Nevada, Missouri. It is owned and operated by the International Chapter PEO Sisterhood. Chapter AQ established the Jo Stone Cottey College scholarship on Jo’s 90th birthday. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Methodist Church, 193 South 3rd St. in Raymondville, Texas. A reception will follow the service at the Church reception pavilion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
