Bowling Green/KY James Duren Shields, 64 passed away in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was born on August 27, 1949 in Harlingen, Texas. He was the son of EvaMae Hughes Shields and Jack Shields. James was a Viet Nam Veteran serving two tours from 1967 to 1971 where he earned the Bronze Star and Vietnam Service medals. After his military service he pursued a career in transportation and logistics, where he became a trainer, coach and logistics manager. James is survived by three children Lloyd and Mary Shields, Jack and Veronica Shields and Sherry and Kyle Brook; five grandchildren Sebastian , Ethan, Tyrell, Jamie, and Gabriella. He is also survived by his two sisters and a brother. His immediate family along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins will miss him dearly. He was a man of few words but great actions. A memorial service to celebrate James's life will be held at Duddlesten Funeral Home on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in the Lyford Evergreen Cemetery with military honors given by the American Legion Post 390 and VFW Post # 6719. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to a Veteran's organization in his name. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Duddlesten Funeral Home, 604 W.
