James "Jimmy" Lloyd Whitfield

November 2, 1933 - February 7, 2018

James “Jimmy” Lloyd Whitfield of Edcouch, TX entered into rest Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at the age of 84. He was born on November 2, 1933 in Brady, TX, and was son of Orus Lloyd and Lola Biggs Whitfield. Raised in Willacy County, Jimmy graduated from Raymondville High School in 1951. He then attended Texas A&M University where he studied Agronomy and enjoyed his service as a Ross Volunteer. After graduating in 1955, he married his wife, Zora Bell “Pud” Whitfield, and entered the service, where he served as a pilot in the United States Air Force until 1958. Jimmy and Pud moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1958, where he started his career in agriculture. He loved being a steward of the land and an active member of the community. Jimmy was a member of the First Christian Church in Raymondville. He also served on the Raymondville State Bank board, the Farm Service Agency committee, the Willacy County EMS board, the Hospital District board, as well as other community service boards. He is survived by his wife, Zora Bell “Pud” Whitfield, daughters Ellen (Douglas) Buckley and Suzanne Reagan; son John Whitfield; grandchildren Bryce (Stephanie) Buckley, Tessa (Jason) Klappenbach, James Curtis Reagan, and Trevor Reagan; and great-grandchildren Luke and Shelby Rose Klappenbach. Visitation will be held at Duddlesten Funeral Home on Friday, February 9, 2018 Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Harlingen, 421 S. 13th St, Harlingen. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Lyford Evergreen Cemetery, Lyford, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to “Blessings from Friends”, 6l7 E. Loop 499, Ste B,. Harlingen, Texas 78552 or to a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Duddlesten Funeral Home, 604 W. Hidalgo Ave., Raymondville, Texas.
